Holiday in Romania

29 June Visited Peles castle and wedding of Gérald and Diana

We slept in the luxious Economat hotel, for a price of LEI 1.3m a night for two persons. This is including eating at the restaurant for a daily value of of LEI 500,000. In the morning, we vistited the famous Peles Castle. Carol I, the first king of Romania, who is actually a German, built this castle. The inside of the castle is fully decorated with wood and marble and includes fine art collections from all over the world. Very impressive. It was restaurated by Ceausescu, but he never visited the castle, as he believed the wood of the castle was inhabited by a fungus, by he could be infected. At the end of the afternoon, a major event began. Two French friends of us, Gerald and Diana were going to get married in the orthodox (90% of all Romanians are orthodox) monastery of Sinaia. Beforehand there was a photo session at the Peles castle. After the wedding, a spelendid feast in the Peles Hotel took place. We had a 'diner dansant' with eight courses of high quality. We saw daylight when we returned to the hotel. This is typical Romanian.
